Fake Gods Diary - 30 September

We are in the process of advertising the Fake Gods name far and wide. So for the moment no website, message board, forum or guestbook is entirely safe! After our first day of 'marketing', our website has had hits from Belgium, Holland and Texas so that bodes very well indeed.

We also contacted ex Love and Money frontman James Grant as we plan to record one of his songs, 'Lips Like Ether' for inclusion on the website. He was very obliging, saying we had his blessing and wishing us good luck. On a cautionary note he stated that the recording and publishing rights lie with Polygram and EMI but I don't expect their lawyers will be banging on our door any time soon.

Fake Gods Diary - 27 September 2005

Re the Fake Gods post below, I plan to make some short diary entries on Fake Gods activity, as much for my own amusement as anything else and as an interesting reference point.

This evening we had a two hour rehearsal at our regular stomping ground, St Andrews Church in Carluke, sunny Lanarkshire. We have recently turned our attention to writing new material and this will take precedence in the coming months. Tonight we spent a fair amount of time working on the structure and sound of one of those songs. We also took time out to play three of our favourite covers, 'Confession' and 'Kenworth Of My Dreams' by Richard Shindell and The Tragically Hip's 'Nautical Disaster' with Alan's solo sounding terrific on acoustic guitar. One of our next plans will be to upload a couple of mp3s to the website and promote this as far and wide as possible. These will be fairly rough but will give people an indication of our sound.

Stay posted for more updates!

The Dirty South...

...is the new record from Drive-By Truckers, an uncomprimising Southern-rock quintet from Alabama. It's by some distance the best record i've heard this year and, having seen them live a few weeks ago, I can vouch that they're the real thing and deserving of your worship. Check out some streaming audio and video on their website at www.drivebytruckers.com

If you're in doubt, check out this review of their recent gig at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow from the Glasgow Herald: www.theherald.co.uk/features/46447.html

Down with Starbucks

Oh how our heroes tumble! If the Jagger, Dylan and Daltrey of the 1960s could peer into their 2005 crystal ball, surely knighthoods, coffee-shop records and duets with boy bands would be the antithesis of their principles. Not so it would seem when you're old, smug, complacent and put short-term publicity and financial gain at the top of your agenda. Thoroughly shameful!

Fake Gods

I'm vocalist/guitarist in a band called Fake Gods with my long-time friend, collaborator and fellow blogger Alan Wood (www.grapefruitmoon.co.uk). Our career is very much at the fledgling stage in recording terms although we've been in existence for some time, having gigged and created our website. Please check it out at www.fakegods.com.

We plan to include early material in mp3 format over the coming months and would welcome feedback in due course. At the present time the site includes a Rants page where you can challenge our thoughts on various topics and a series of links to our favourite artists which should appeal to the more discerning listener.

Here it is...

A good friend of mine recommended blogging so this I'm going to give it a bash. Expect much snarling and gnashing of teeth! This blog should have plenty of bite and purpose even though I expect only a handful of people to read it but what the hell.
