Carol Laula

I believe that in Scotland we have (and have always had) a rich array of talented musicians and performers. Unfortunately most of those who have "risen to the top" have the least discernible talent. Bay City Rollers, Lulu, Wet Wet Wet, Texas, Travis, The Proclaimers. Each to their own. However, thankfully there are still those artists who are inspirational and remind me why I love music so intensely and Carol Laula is one such person. Blessed with a wonderfully clear and precise voice, she is, to my mind, one of Scotland's finest female singer-songwriters. I witnessed this first-hand in 1996 at the Old Atheneum in Glasgow in one of two shows recorded for her album 'Naked'. I hadn't listened to that record in some time so I recently dusted it off and it still sounds fantastic. Her website has some streamable music including songs from her most recent album 'To Let' and I thoroughly recommend you check it out.

Fake Gods Diary - 20 October 2005

The response to the initial promotion of our website has been wonderful. After the first three weeks, the site has had 465 hits from 111 unique visitors. Certainly way beyond my expectations!

The serious and lonely business of songwriting has been looming large for some time and, at last, we're making some significant headway. I've been writing over the last few days and, of the songs penned so far, 'Where I'm Coming From' and 'Flat Out' have the most promise.

We had a call from a Manchester company called White Label Records about including our music on a compilation album for distribution to record companies. Although it's nice to have the offer, this is unlikely to be an avenue we'll want to pursue.
